The Director
Francesco Urso brings a new generation's energy and vision to the venue his mother founded. As Director, Francesco oversees every aspect of operations at Cala dei Balcani, ensuring that each celebration meets the exacting standards that have defined the venue for over two decades. His deep knowledge of the territory — the ancient olive groves, the crystalline coves, the traditions of Salentine cuisine — informs every decision he makes.
Francesco works closely with couples from the moment of first contact through to the final farewell, personally guaranteeing that no detail is overlooked and that every wedding reflects the couple's unique story. He collaborates with the region's finest artisans, producers, and creatives to source ingredients, flowers, music, and décor that are always rooted in the authentic spirit of Salento — never generic, never formulaic, always deeply personal.

The Setting
Cala dei Balcani stands above the sea in Santa Cesarea Terme, one of the most beautiful and historically resonant towns on the Salentine coast. The setting is defined by the dramatic limestone cliffs, the extraordinary clarity of the Adriatic waters below, and the long horizon that ends, on clear days, at the mountains of Albania — a panorama that has given this place its evocative name.
The venue's heart is the Torre Saracena di Monte Saracino, a watchtower built in the 16th century following the devastating Ottoman raid on Otranto in 1480. Constructed in the distinctive truncated-cone form typical of the Salentine defensive towers — nine metres in diameter, ten metres in height — it has stood for over five hundred years as a guardian of this coastline. Today it stands as a symbol of something altogether different: endurance, beauty, and the celebration of life.
